Amazing ways to reduce indoor Pollution

Plants add beauty to a home. They also do a great job cleaning and purifying the air. Even NASA believes in the benefits of houseplants. They discovered that if they put plants inside a closed environment, the leaves removed “low levels” of indoor pollution, and the roots removed even more, especially if activated carbon filters were placed around them.

In studies, it took about 15 to 20 houseplants to clean the air in an average-sized home- – about 1,800 square feet. The only caution is, don’t overwater. Damp soil can promote mold and mildew, exactly the kind of thing you’re trying to get rid of.

The four major chemicals plants remove from the atmosphere are carbon dioxide, benzene (found in gasoline, inks, oils, paints, plastics, rubber, dyes, detergents, and pharmaceuticals), formaldehyde (found in particleboard, plywood, foam insulation, grocery bags, room deodorizers, wax paper, facial tissues, paper towels, and permanent press fabrics), and trichloroethylene, also known as TCE, (found in dry cleaning chemicals, printing inks, paints, lacquers, varnishes and adhesives).
